Coconut Crabs are not, as the name suggests, true crabs. They look like earth-dwelling lobsters, and the Coconut Crab's closest relative is the Land Hermit Crab. The "coconut" part of the Coconut Crab's name comes from its claws, which are strong enough to crack open a coconut! The Coconut Crab can grow to be up to 3 feet long, and weigh up to more than 8 pounds! Birgus latro is this cool crustacean's scientific name, and the Coconut Crab was discovered and named by Linnaeus in 1767. Sadly, today in many countries, Coconut Crab meat is considered a delicacy, so this amazing animal is now critically endangered, and we must do all we can to help.

Arroyo Toads

by Olivia Martin-Spisak

Arroyo Toads are a endangered toad that lives only in southen California. They are a greenish-grey or salmon with light colored stripe across there head and eye lids. The Arroyo Toad is Endangered because of habitat destruction and Bull Frogs who are not native here and are killing a lot of our small species. Arroyo toads (like most toads) eat insects. There life cycle is simple: there eggs take 4-6 days to hatch, they are tadpoles for 65-85 days, they live for about 5 years. Arroyo Toads are solitary animals. You can help by making sure when you go camping the camp ground is not a Toad habitat. And donating to a Toad website help a lot too.
